Planners expect the
population of Singapore to reach 5.5 million by 2040 or 2050, taking
into account an expected increase in the number of foreigners working
here. From just 3 million in 1990, the number has swelled to 3.9 million
today, including 700,000 foreigners. |
A high-level working
committee is now looking at ways to encourage more couples to have
babies. Demographer Saw Swee Hock says that if the fertility rate
continues to stay below two, the population here, minus the foreigners,
will peak at about 3.3 million in 2025 and then begin to drop. |

Good Eats: Cottage Pies Cafe at NTUC Fairprice, Tampines Mall
|
This chicken pie from
Cottage Pies Cafe is really good - trust us! It may
be smaller than the regular chicken pie you get from other
shops, and at 90 cents each, it may also be expensive for
its size BUT once you have tasted it, you will want to
come back for more.
|
And, after only two of
these pies, you will not be hungry for the pies sort of
fill up your stomach. When you eat some chicken pies, you
may not get to eat chicken meat, but when you down Cottage
Pies's chicken pies, you know you have eaten real
bite-size chicken meat in them. There are two versions,
one with chilli for the more adventurous.
|
Order three chicken
pies at one go, and you pay only S$2.50. Cottage Pies is
located at NTUC Fairprice in the basement of Tampines
Mall. They have their own counter there. Do pop over for a
visit sometime soon and give your tastebuds a little
reward they deserve for serving you so well.
