Click logo to start tour

Mdm Kang's Kitchen Chilli Crab

The Just Jazz series at Chijmes in September will see the Don Gomes Quintet performing at the Chijmes Fountain Court from 5pm to 8pm, on the 16th September 2001.

From the tender age of four, Don began playing the piano. After university, Don played at numerous gigs and much time was spent practising and learning. Don was voted 1992ís Most Outstanding Jazz Artist by the Western Australian Music Industry Association.

In Don's own words, "What separates jazz from a lot of other musical forms is that itís highly improvised yet restrained by a certain format. Spontaneous Composition. You never play it the same way twice. You have to draw on emotion. You have to draw on intellect, so spontaneously compose and communicate."

Performing with him are Joshua Wan on Piano, Wilfred on Bass, Tony Castillo on Trumpeter, Leonard Fernandez on Tenor saxophone and Leo Jeoh on Trombone.

Admission is FREE and all are welcome.

The Coffin Is Too Big For The Hole

Presented by The Theatre Practice

Originally a monologue by Kuo Pao Kun, the play has been transformed into a visual and aural feast. Premiered to critical acclaim at last year's Asian Art Festival in Tokyo, with a theme dedicated to Kuo and his works, it has been hailed as "an avant-garde shadow play" with soaring sounds and flying light and shadows that dance in space.
