Planners expect the
population of Singapore to reach 5.5 million by 2040 or 2050, taking
into account an expected increase in the number of foreigners working
here. From just 3 million in 1990, the number has swelled to 3.9 million
today, including 700,000 foreigners. |
A high-level working
committee is now looking at ways to encourage more couples to have
babies. Demographer Saw Swee Hock says that if the fertility rate
continues to stay below two, the population here, minus the foreigners,
will peak at about 3.3 million in 2025 and then begin to drop. |

National Library Board: "Fengshui
& You" Talks
The
National Library Board (NLB) is holding talks in English
and Mandarin on Fengshui and You. For
thousands of years, the Chinese have used the teachings of
fengshui to enhance their lives. Fengshui is not just
superstition. It is the art and science of placement, of
living in harmony with nature, with ourselves, and with
our environment.
|
You can find out how
these principles can be applied in the correct way to
create harmony and prosperity in life. The talks will be
held on Friday, 2 March 2001 Time: 2.00 - 3.00pm (English)
4.00 - 5.00pm (Mandarin) Venue: Queenstown Community
Library, Auditorium 53 Margaret Drive Singapore 149297.
|
Speaker (English
Talk) Dr Evelyn Lip, an architect is also a specialist
consultant in fengshui. Being a trained architect, her
perception and understanding of fengshui is wide in scope
and broad in knowledge. Since her first book on fengshui
published in the 1970's, she has written more than 30
books, and has done several consultancy projects.
|
Speaker (Mandarin
Talk) Master Richard Phua runs a consultancy at the
Crystal Silver Fengshui Centre. He is also the
Vice-president of the Singapore Feng Shui Centre, and
has given talks on the subject.
