Let NE-ZHA take you into the world of rod puppetry

Click logo to start tour

Mdm Kang's Kitchen Chilli Crab

The Finger Players, a non-profit company set up in 1999, will use rod puppetry for the first time, which is also a first for a local group, to perform Ne-Zha, a familiar Chinese folktale about a child who became a god.

Some of Singapore's most promising young theatre practitioners, such as TAN Beng Tian, Jo KWEK, ONG Kian Sin and LEE Wai Ying, will be breathing life into these puppets so we can expect quite a performance. Benjamin HO, a trained primary school teacher who is adept at making puppets, designed the puppets. HO is also directing the production.

The performances, in Mandarin, will take place at the Drama Centre according to the following schedule:

  20 - 21 Jul 2001   8pm

  21 - 22 Jul 2001   3pm

A thought-provoking play by 2000 Nobel Literature Prize winner GAO Xing Jian.

In this play, the three characters - a man, a woman and a monk - through the use of witty and poetic dialogue filled with Zen Buddhism questioning, explore man's sufferings in life and the fear and emptiness after death.
