Richard Branson, Virgin Group's chairman, was in town
yesterday to officiate at the launch of Virgin Mobile.
Currently, Virgin Mobile's phone services are subscription
free, unlike the other cellular operators which offer both
subscription and pre-paid plans. Virgin Mobile relies on a
pre-paid plan in which users pay S$35 for a pre-paid card
with S$35 of talktime. Charges for calls made are 20 cents
per minute, billed per second, on calls as well as a 20-cent
connection charge for each outgoing call. This makes its
pre-paid plan more expensive to use than the other cellular
phone operators here. However, with Sir Richard Branson at
the helm, Virgin Mobile is sure going to overcome the
competition though their pricing is against them.
