Planners expect the
population of Singapore to reach 5.5 million by 2040 or 2050, taking
into account an expected increase in the number of foreigners working
here. From just 3 million in 1990, the number has swelled to 3.9 million
today, including 700,000 foreigners.
A high-level working
committee is now looking at ways to encourage more couples to have
babies. Demographer Saw Swee Hock says that if the fertility rate
continues to stay below two, the population here, minus the foreigners,
will peak at about 3.3 million in 2025 and then begin to drop.

Monday with the Editor

Hi everyone
|
|
Teenagers, as well as
young adults up to 35 years old or maybe older, may be
glad to know that we, at Get For Me Singapore,
expect to be able to sell music online on our website
within the next few weeks. This is because we are in the
process of signing up as an affiliate partner of SoundBuzz.com.
|
SoundBuzz.com is
the leading provider of licensed downloadable digital
music in Asia and currently distributes music from
well-known Asian, international and independent record
labels.
|
Visitors to our website
will be able to sample, buy and download music from
SoundBuzz's archives over the Internet. Besides credit
cards, buyers can choose to pay through their ISPs.
Currently, Singnet subscribers can pay for the song(s)
purchased through Singnet billing at the end of the month.
More details will be posted on our website as soon as we
have inked the deal.
|
While some may frown on
the idea of paid music, especially when Napster is around,
we think the future of music lies in paid online music
which gives the buyers the choice of choosing the song(s)
they want instead of paying for the entire album. We are
therefore - pioneers of sorts - in this area and we are
glad to be part of this new revolution sweeping the world
today.
