The Scholarship will be: * tenable primarily at Oxford and Cambridge Universities for first degree courses in the following selected Colleges: Oxford: Exeter, Oriel, Queen's and Trinity Cambridge: Downing, Magdalene and Trinity * for a period of 3 years or 4 years as appropriate; * sufficient in amount to cover fees, tuition, books, equipment, boarding and lodging, living expenses and travel expenses to and from University, at the start and at the end of the course; * conditional upon the candidate being selected for and taking up a place in one of the selected Colleges, with the Colleges themselves having absolute discretion in the acceptance of candidates. Applicants must: * be under 25 years of age, single and in satisfactory state of health; * be citizen or permanent resident of Singapore. Singapore male applicants must complete or be exempted from national service; * apply through U.C.A.S. (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) for entry to one of the above Colleges prior to applying for the Scholarship and sit the relevant University entrance examination, if this is required. METHOD OF APPLICATION: 1. Application forms and full details of the Scholarship are available from the Secretaries. The Jardine Foundation, c/o P.O. Box 260 Robinson Road, Singapore 900510. 2. Applications must be received by the Secretaries of the Jardine Foundation on Friday, 27 October 2000. 3. For applicants attending Secondary School or Junior College, applications must be submitted through the school principal and be supported by a testimonial signed by the school principal setting out; i. the applicant's academic record of examination results; ii. remarks which will assist the Scholarship committee to satisfy themselves that requirements as to special qualities have been met, and iii. any other relevant information which will assist the Scholarship Committee in their assessment ' 4. In all other cases, applications in Singapore must be submitted together with references, through the principal of Secondary School or Junior College, which applicants last attended. 5. Applications should include 2 recent passport-sized photographs. 6. Shortlisted applicants will be screened by a selection committee whose decision will be final. 7. The final selection will require applicants to attend a personal interview before 10 January 2001.
