Population

Estimated population of Singapore citizens and permanent residents - 3,163,500 as at June 1998.

Chinese            77%

Malays             14%

Indians            7.6%

Other ethnic groups 1.4%

Working Language: English

Other official languages: Mandarin, Malay & Tamil.

Planners expect the population of Singapore to reach 5.5 million by 2040 or 2050, taking into account an expected increase in the number of foreigners working here. From just 3 million in 1990, the number has swelled to 3.9 million today, including 700,000 foreigners.
A high-level working committee is now looking at ways to encourage more couples to have babies. Demographer Saw Swee Hock says that if the fertility rate continues to stay below two, the population here, minus the foreigners, will peak at about 3.3 million in 2025 and then begin to drop.

  Hi everyone

On this website, we have a service which lets people living overseas to approach us to help them purchase things which they can't find in their own country. We call it Get Singapore Things.

What we do is this: When we are approached by these people, we usually ask them for a description of the product they wish to get, and thereafter we locate the product and quote our price for the product. The price which we quote includes our handling and parcel delivery charges. We need to receive payment first, before we send the goods - that is the basis of our service.

We accept two types of payments: 1) check/cheque (personal) 2) cash. Some of our customers have sent cash to us in registered letters and we have been able to send them the things they wish us to obtain for them quite quickly enough - usually it would take their cash payment about two to three weeks to reach us (from any part of the world) and we would despatch the goods to them. All in, it would take around 5 weeks. We have had no problems with this group so far.  More.....
