OVERVIEW |
2006 saw an increase in the total number of
injury and fatal accidents. There were also more people injured and
killed on our roads. |
The vehicle population in Singapore rose, in
mid-year, from 742156 to 776571 in 2006. |
Taking into consideration the rise in
vehicle population, the number of fatal accidents per 10,000 vehicles in
2006 was 2.34, a slight increase from 2.31 in 2005. This is still lower
than the 2.5 fatal accidents per 10, 000 vehicles in 2004. |
The number of fatal accidents increased from
172 cases to 182 cases in 2006. The number of serious injury accidents1
increased from 71 to 94 cases in 2006. The number of slight injury
accidents has also increased from 6,463 cases to 7,223 cases in 2006. |

The number of persons killed increased from
173 to 190 in 2006. The number of persons injured increased from 8,226
to 9,706 in 2006, of which 104 suffered serious injuries. |

Speeding |
There was an overall increase in the
number of speed-related accidents, from 1,445 to 1,657 cases in
2006, with the number of speed-related fatal accidents increasing
by 15 cases, from 51 to 66. More than 1 in 3 of all fatal
accidents were speed related. |
