Traffic Arrangements for Thaipusam Festival 2007 From 6 P.M. On Wed, 31 Jan 2007 to 2 A.M on Fri, 2 Feb 2007

The Thaipusam Festival 2007 will be held on Thursday, 1 February 2007.
There will be a religious foot procession comprising about 10,000 devotees carrying kavadis and their supporters between 12 midnight on Wednesday, 31 January 2007 and 12 midnight, on Thursday, 1 February 2007.
They will proceed on foot from Sri Sinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon Road towards Sri Thandayuthapani Temple at Tank Road via Serangoon Road, Selegie Road, Orchard Road, Penang Road, Clemenceau Ave and Tank Road. Annex A highlights the procession route.
In conjunction with this celebration, there will be a motorized chariot procession on 31 January 2007 between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. from Sri Thandayuthapani Temple at Tank Road to Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple at Keong Saik Road.
The same motorized chariot procession will later travel back to Sri Thandayuthapani Temple between 5 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. on the same day.
To facilitate the traffic arrangements for this event, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:

31 January 2007, from 6 p.m to 2 February 2007 , to 2 a.m

a) Petain Road (between Sturdee Rd and Serangoon Road )

31 January 2007 , from 7 p.m to 2 February 2007 , to 2 a.m

b) Tank Road

31 January 2007 , from 10 p.m to 2 February 2007 , to 2 a.m

c) Clemenceau Avenue (between River Valley Road and Penang Road , the side of the road leading from River Valley Road towards Penang Road).

31 January 2007 , from 11 p.m to 2 February 2007 , to 2 a.m

d) Veerasamy Road between Kampong Kapor Road and Serangoon Road

1 February 2007 , from 5 p.m to 8p.m

e) Hastings Road (between Serangoon Road and Clive Street )
f) Campbell Lane (between Serangoon Road and Clive Street )
g) Dunlop Street (between Serangoon Road and Clive Street )
h) Upper Dickson Road (between Serangoon Road and Clive Street )

The diversion scheme for public bus services affected by the closure of Tank Road and Clemenceau Ave is reflected in Annex B.
Motorists are advised to avoid the route of the religious processions as well as the peripheral roads leading to the affected areas. The Hindu Endowment Board, who is the organizer of the event, will deploy marshals to regulate the procession.
Auxiliary Police Officers will also be deployed to regulate traffic and assist motorists throughout the event. Motorists are advised to comply with their directions. Police will also be deployed for crowd control and traffic management. The public may call the organiser¨s hotline at 62985771.
Those who intend to fetch relatives at the end of the procession are advised not to wait along Clemenceau Ave and River Valley Road. Instead, they should wait at the car park along River Valley Rd next to the River Valley Building.

Motorists intending to proceed towards the city area from the northern, eastern and western parts of the island are advised to use the following alternative routes:

Northern Part - via CTE/Bukit Timah Rd and Ophir Rd
Eastern Part - via ECP/Nicoll Highway/PIE
Western Part - via AYE/Jalan Bukit Merah/Keppel Rd
Parking restrictions along the procession route, the temple¨s vicinity and the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced. Vehicles found illegally parked and those causing obstruction will be towed.
