Singapore Education To Hold The Inaugural Annual Singapore Education Awards in March 2007

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) today (10 Nov 2006) announced the launch of the inaugural Singapore Education (SE) Awards which will be held on 23 March 2007.
As the lead agency driving the promotion of the Singapore Education brand, the Education Services division of the STB is spearheading the Singapore Education (SE) Awards to recognise the contributions made by exemplary individuals and organisations in the industry, rally the industry players to improve their standards of service and education excellence and raise public interest in promoting education.
This award will enhance industry collaboration and the exchange of ideas, while encouraging the industry to promote the Singapore Education brand to overseas students.
Over the past 3 years, the education industry has implemented a number of policies and schemes to strengthen the quality of educational institutions and related services pertaining to the provision of welfare services for international students.
Such schemes include the Singapore Quality Class for Private Education Organisations (SQC-PEO), CaseTrust for Education, AMCIS Homestay, Overseas Students¡¯ Association (OSA) and Singapore Education (SE) Specialists (Please refer to Annex A).
The Singapore Education (SE) Awards aims to acknowledge industry partners (both organisations and individuals) who have helped to establish and support these schemes. They champion the values articulated in the Singapore Education brand and deliver enriching educational experiences to our visitors.
¡°The SE Awards enables us to further inspire our industry partners who are integral to the success of the Singapore Education brand. The Awards will increase their commitment to provide the best of global learning in an inspiring and supportive environment,¡± said Ms Magdalene Lee, Director, Education Services Division, Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
The local education industry has rallied behind the awards while lauding the move. Ms Elizabeth Yeak, Director, EMC Education Services Pte Ltd, a Private Education Organisation, said: ¡°The SE Awards is a good award to identify the good programmes and to motivate providers and local schools to plan interesting and innovative programmes.¡±

The SE Awards will consist of seven categories:

1) Best Education Event organised by a Tourism Club School
2) Best Host for International Students Studying in Singapore (Organisation)
3) Best Enrichment Programme
4) ¡®Friend of International Students¡¯ Award
5) Best Media Coverage for Singapore Education
6) Best International Marketing Effort by an Education Institution
7) Best Singapore Education (SE) Specialist

The first four categories will be open for public nomination, and the other three categories are closed nomination categories which will be judged by authoritative representatives of the industry as well as professionals in the relevant fields who are equipped with the appropriate expertise.
The SE Awards is an instrumental component of the Singapore Education Brand Campaign which was first launched in India in August.
The campaign aims to engage the audience directly and on a personal basis through the eyes and experiences of international students studying in Singapore. It is hoped that their positive experiences will encourage the target audience to aspire for a similarly enriching and inspirational education in Singapore.
Phase II of the campaign will be rolled out in key overseas markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam over the next few months (Please see Annex B for information on the Singapore Education Brand Campaign).
Members of the public as well as industry players are welcome to nominate outstanding individuals and schools that fall into any of the four open categories.
Nomination forms will be available from 13 November onwards at Singapore Visitors Centre, Singapore Education Services Centre and the Singapore Tourism Board office located at Tourism Court (Please see Annex C).
Online nominations will be available from 1 December to 31 December 2006 at http://www.se-awards.sg.
