Effective May 2004, employers and
authorised Employment Agents (EA) will enjoy greater ease and convenience with
procedures simplified for work permit Issuance/Renewal/ Cancellation.
|

The Work Permit Department (WPD)
has introduced improved fax services, simplified forms and reduced the number
of documents required for work permit Issuance/Renewal/ Cancellation as part
of its rules review and process reengineering to enhance customer’s
experience and services delivery.
|

Employers will no longer need to
make as many visits to MOM’s Work Permit Department (WPD) for the following
transactions:

• Issuance of Work Permit
• Renewal of Work Permit
• Cancellation of Work Permit
|
|
For instance, effective 15 May,
they will be able to submit documents required for work permits issuance using
WPD’s new fax service. The WPD will also process and reply to work
permit renewals and cancellations conducted via fax within the same day.

(a) Enhanced Fax Services for
Issuance
|
|
From 15 May 2004, MOM will
introduce a fax service for submission of documents required for the issuance
of work permits.
|
|
Once an employer or authorised EA receives the
In-Principle Approval letter to employ a foreign worker, he can fax a
“Request Form for Issuance of New Work Permits” to WPD.
|
|
Previously, he had to make a trip to the WPD to
submit relevant documents for verification. Now employers or their authorised
agents need only produce the relevant documents for verification when collecting
the work permit card or when the foreign worker reports for finger
printing/photo-imaging at the Work Permit Services Centre.

(b) Forms simplified for
Renewals & Cancellations
|
|
The WPD has simplified
the Work Permit Renewal/Cancellation forms reducing the number of
pages of information required from a maximum of seven to two.
|
|
With effect 3 May, fewer documents
need to be faxed over to WPD when renewing or cancelling a work permit via
fax. Work permit Renewals and Cancellations via fax will also be processed and
a reply faxed back within the same day.
