Singapore Examinations & Assessment Board formed
|
|
|
Effective
1 April 2004, the Singapore Examinations & Assessment Board (SEAB) will
function as a new statutory board under the Ministry of Education (MOE).
SEAB’s core business will be to develop and provide quality assessment
services, including examination services for national examinations.
|
|
The setting up of the new
statutory board will facilitate MOE’s efforts to take greater control over
the examination system. As Singapore continuously improves its education
system, we need to evolve assessment methods and review and update the content
of our examinations to match ongoing changes in curriculum and teaching
methods. The establishment of SEAB will add to the diversity and
responsiveness of our local education landscape.
|
|
As a statutory board, SEAB will
enjoy enhanced operational capacity and flexibility, so that it can develop
local examination expertise and facilitate research and development in
assessment. MOE will continue to maintain supervisory control over all
national examinations and determine the fees to be charged.
|
|
The Chairman of the SEAB board
will be Ms Seah Jiak Choo, Director-General of Education. The CEO of SEAB will
be Mr Tan Yap Kwang, previously Director, Examinations Division, MOE. The
former Examinations Division of MOE will be incorporated into SEAB.
|
|
SEAB will be located at 298 Jalan
Bukit Ho Swee Singapore 169565. Public services for matters relating to the
national examinations, such as enquiry on national examinations, purchase of
statement of results, and collection of examination certificates for private
candidates, will continue to be provided by MOE’s Customer Service Centre at
1 North Buona Vista Drive Singapore 138675.
