Women's Weekly is not just for women, I discovered one day when I
started flipping through its pages during one of those long waits. Since then, I have been getting a
copy for my wife, and secretly for myself too. It has lots of
goodies inside, such as tear-out recipes; a handy reader-hints
page in which readers share everyday remedies for that stain that
wouldn't go off or keeping mashed bananas from turning brown too
quickly; Chinese horoscopes to guide us through life's twists and
turns; engaging celebrities' highs and lows - all presented in
130-odd pages of once-you-pick-up-you-won't-let-go stuff. The list
just goes on and on. It's so unlike some magazines which are so thick
and yet so devoid of content. In its April 2000 issue, the
magazine spotlights Sakura Teng, whom everyone who has grown up in
the seventies know as a household name. Sakura's spontaneity is
captured in print for the reader to experience. At S$2.95 a copy, it's worth every
cent you pay. It's available at all good bookstores and newspaper
kiosks. They have got e-mail now; you can write to them at sww@acp.com.sg. COMING SOON NEW

Citibank has been engaged as the lead manager for the IPO. Four off-duty police officers were attacked by ten men outside a nightclub at Orchard Cineleisure early Wednesday morning. The blood bank is running dangerously low at times. Too few people are donating blood, and too many need blood donations. What makes the problem more acute is the stringent donor-screening standards here. Only six out of ten people qualify as donors. Only 2% of the population here are blood donors, compared with 5% in developed countries, such as the United States. Asia Sydney: Pressure is building for Prime Minister John Howard to override mandatory jailing laws condemned by human rights groups as racists. Around the world Atlanta: City dwellers get sick more often than their rural counterparts. Well-educated adults are healthier than those without a high school diploma. And people living in poverty are sick most often. These trends were drawn from a five-year study released on Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC). Ottawa: Canadian Immigration Minister Elinor Caplan has introduced a tough new law which could mean life imprisonment and a C$1 million (S$1.2 million) fine for those found guilty of smuggling illegal immigrants into Canada.
