Civil Defence Heritage Gallery opens its doors

The S$3 million Civil Defence Heritage Gallery was opened in late November. It occupies two floors of the tower block in the Central Fire Station in Hill Street. The Central Fire Station is the oldest fire station in Singapore.

The setting up of the museum was proposed in 1995 when the Central Fire Station was gazetted as a national monument.

The Gallery showcases the history of civil defence and fire-fighting in Singapore from the late 1800s to modern day. Its exhibits include the latest fire-fighting and rescue technology developed and used by the Singapore Civil Defence Force in protecting and saving lives.

Admission is free till 1 Jan 2002 and all are welcome. The Gallery is open from 10am to 5pm daily (except Mondays). Its address is 62, Hill Street, Central Fire Station, Singapore 179367. Tel: (65) 332 2995/332 2994.
