To ask the Deputy Prime Minister and
Minister for Home Affairs if he can provide a comparison of the profile
of the current inmate population in our penal institutions including
juvenile homes and the profile of the general population, distributed by |
(i) household income |
(ii) highest education qualification
obtained |
(iii) gender and |
(iv) ethnic group. |
Mr Wong Kan Seng: |
The Prisons Department (PD) maintains
statistics to support its rehabilitation regime. Of the four categories
of information requested, PD is unable to share statistics regarding
income levels and ethnic groups. |
The profile of the population by gender and
education in the drug rehabilitation centres, penal institutions, and
juvenile homes as of Jun 2007 are set out in the tables below: |
