Singapore Changi Airport Honoured by Prestigious Business Traveller UK Magazine for Being Longest "Best Airport" Title Holder

Singapore Changi Airport marks a page in the Business Traveller United Kingdom (UK) magazine for being the longest "Best Airport in the World" title holder for the past 20 consecutive years.
In recognition of Changi Airport's steadfast achievements, the well-established business travel publication presented a special award, "Twenty Years at the Top, Best Airport in the World" to Changi Airport.
Mr Julian Gregory, Managing Director of Business Traveller UK, presented the award to Mr Lim Kim Choon, Director-General & Chief Executive Officer, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), in a ceremony held at Changi Airport today.
Mr Lim said, "Winning an award is an achievement, and keeping our reign on the best airport title for 20 consecutive years is even more commendable. Nevertheless, it is also an ongoing challenge." Mr Lim added, "It is the dedication and commitment of all airport staff that have made it possible for us to stay on top, and everyone in the airport community plays an important role. I would like to toast this award to all valued members of the Changi family namely the airlines, ground handlers, government agencies, concessionaires, contractors and all stakeholders and staff of our airport. Without all their cooperation and support, Changi Airport would not have won this award twenty times. Travellers like what we do and we should continue to do what they like and excite them even further with our Changi Experience."
This is the first-of-its kind award presented to any organisation since the Business Traveller award was introduced in the early 1980s, recognised throughout the industry as the premier accolade for business travel.
Mr Julian Gregory, said, "Achieving consistency of experience is a challenge in any business but to do so for twenty years is an exceptional achievement. In that time we have seen new airports around the world but Changi has seen off these challenges and remained in our readers view the market leader and the airport of choice when transiting. Generally air travel is not seen by regular travellers as an enjoyable experience but Changi does everything it can to ensure that the experience in Singapore is an exception. It is therefore with great pleasure that we recognise Changi's twenty years of achievement in being voted Best Airport in the World by our readers with a special award."
To commemorate Changi Airport's 20-year achievement, CAAS also launched a 2-month exhibition, 'Business Traveller UK Best Airport in the World 1988-2007' at Changi Airport today.
This exhibition showcases the Business Traveller UK awards won by Changi Airport and pictures of CAAS representatives receiving the awards from the British royalty, and other world renowned celebrities at the Business Traveller award ceremonies held annually in London.
Travellers at Changi Airport will be able to view the exhibition at the Departure / Transit Malls of Terminals 1 and 2. The exhibitions will be held in Terminal 2 from 9 October to 8 November 2007 while Terminal 1 will showcase the awards from 9 November to 8 December 2007.
In conjunction with the launch of the exhibition, travellers at Changi Airport will also have an opportunity to contribute to charity. In support of Business Traveller UK's adopted charity, 'Save the Children', a charity box is available at the exhibition for travellers to place their contributions.
'Save the Children' is the world's independent children's charity aimed at providing proper healthcare, food, education and protection for children all over the world.
Changi Airport first won the "Best Airport in the World" award in 1988. Despite the increasingly competitive airport environment, Changi Airport continues to excel and top airport surveys worldwide.
In the annual polls conducted by the magazine this year, the majority of air travellers expressed their support for Changi Airport's smooth efficiency, calm atmosphere in the Departure / Transit lounges as well as the wide range of facilities and services available for travellers to enjoy while waiting for their flights. In 2006, Changi Airport won a record of 25 best airport awards and accolades. In 2007, Changi Airport has so far won 11 awards and accolades.
