Orchard Underpass Counterfeit Syndicates Busted |
|
|
In a 14-hour island-wide operation conducted
from 2.00pm on 20 July 2006 to 4.00am on 21 July 2006 , Police busted 2
Mongolian syndicates involved in the sale of counterfeit luxury
products. |
A total of 4 locations - Ang Mo Kio Avenue
8, Geylang Lorong 20, Bencoolen Street and Serangoon North Avenue 3,
were raided in the operation. |
A total of 11 Mongolian nationals,
consisting of 7 males and 4 females aged between 15 and 36 years old,
were arrested for offences under the Trade Marks Act. |
More than 4,200 trade mark infringing luxury
products comprising leather handbags, wallets and coin pouches with an
estimated street value of about S$63,000 were seized. |
In early 2006, Police received information
on syndicated piracy activities along the Orchard underpass. |
Investigations revealed that apart
from the Orchard underpass, the syndicates also operated in the
vicinities of Somerset MRT station, Bugis Village and other parts
of Singapore with high human traffic. |
The syndicates would obtain the
counterfeit items from overseas and arrange for their members to
bring them into Singapore . |
This operation exemplifies Police's capability in
dealing with syndicates and has created a severe dent in the high-end
counterfeits scene. Police will continue to clamp down hard on such syndicates
involved in the sale of counterfeit products and will spare no effort in
bringing those responsible to justice. |
