NAFA launches fashion incubator for students |
¡¡ |
|
With strong support from staff, students and
alumni, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) is taking a bold step in
propelling fashion education to the next level by setting up the Kajima
Fashion Boutique Gallery. |
NAFA established the School of Fashion
Studies (SFS) in 1986 and its full-time degree and diploma student
population has grown to 330 in 2006. |
The Kajima Fashion Boutique Gallery aims to
be an incubator of fashion ideas and to forge a spirit of
entrepreneurship in NAFA students and alumni. |
It is named after Kajima Overseas Asia Pte
Ltd, one of the donors to the NAFA Building Fund. |
The Boutique Gallery will showcase students¡¯
works and provide a unique opportunity to market their collections to
industry partners and the public. |
Being a pioneer to implement this concept in
Singapore, it is a bold experiment. However, NAFA believes in providing
the best learning opportunities to our students for them to realise
their dreams. The spirit of risk-taking and the ability to feel the
pulse of the market are critical to the success of one¡¯s career. |
The Boutique Gallery will help to expose students to
the business aspects of the fashion industry under the guidance of our teaching
staff, fashion consultant Mr Thomas Wee and marketing consultant Mr Mohamed
Yusoff Ismail. |
Says Mr Choo Thiam Siew, President of
NAFA: ¡°The opening of the Boutique Gallery signifies a new chapter
not just for NAFA, but also the grooming of the next generation of
fashion talents in Singapore. As Singapore aims to be an
international fashion hub, we look forward to playing a part in this
vision by being a hothouse where creativity meets business.¡± |
The Boutique Gallery was officially
opened by Mrs Goh-Tan Choo Leng, Member, NAFA Council, on 10 Mar
2006. |
