Singapore Police Nabbed Three
Persons Involved in Kidnapping in Malaysia |
|
Three men were arrested by the Singapore
Police Force (SPF) early yesterday (6 Jul 06) morning for their
involvement in a kidnapping case which happened in Selangor on 30 Jun
06. |
The arrests came about following a joint
operation between SPF and the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). Five other
suspects have also been arrested by RMP in Malaysia. |
On 30 Jun 2006, SPF received a request for
assistance from RMP pertaining to a case of Kidnapping for Ransom which
was reported earlier that morning in Selangor, Malaysia. |
The hostage is a Malaysian Chinese man in
his 60s. He was allegedly abducted by several unknown persons outside
his bungalow house in Selangor on 30 Jun 2006 at about 8.30 am. His
family subsequently received demands for a substantial ransom for his
safe release. |
Arising from the RMP request, CID and other
SPF officers immediately swung into action to support RMP's
investigations into the case. It was established that the suspects had
eventually arranged for the ransom money to be handed over in Singapore. |
The ransom money was picked up by a
Singaporean man in the Choa Chu Kang estate in the early morning of 5
Jul 06. The hostage was then released unharmed in Selangor a few hours
later. |
RMP mounted several raids to arrest three
Malaysians in Malaysia in connection with the kidnapping. |
Consequently, SPF arrested two Singaporean
Chinese men aged 28 and 35 years respectively in a house in Jalan
Dinding at about 3 am on 6 Jul 06. |
A third suspect, a 33-year-old
Singaporean Chinese man was arrested at the Tuas Checkpoint an
hour later. Nearly all the ransom money had been recovered from
amongst the three Singaporean suspects. |
Investigations into the case are still
in progress. |
Commissioner of Police, Mr Khoo Boon
Hui says, "This successful operation to nab the kidnapping
suspects is another manifestation of the close co-operation
between RMP and SPF. Over the years, many criminals have been
arrested on both sides of the causeway precisely because of the
good understanding and readiness which officers from both police
forces have when undertaking joint operations and investigations.
I would like to congratulate officers from both forces in a job
well done." |
