Police Officer Found Dead at Home with Gunshot Wound

¡¡
A Police Senior Staff Sergeant was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head at his Woodlands residence this morning (6 February 2006).
Senior Staff Sergeant Jansen SM Xavier Santhansamy, an officer in his mid-30s, has been an Investigations Officer with the Ang Mo Kio Police Division Headquarters for the past five years and had joined the Singapore Police Force in 1992. He had been on leave for his examinations for the past week.
The officer was last seen leaving his flat at Blk 622 Woodlands Drive 52 yesterday at about 7 am in the morning. His wife had left home for work at about 11 pm on the same day. At that time, the officer had not returned. No one was aware as to what time he had returned home.
At about 11 am this morning, the family¡¯s domestic helper had noticed that the door to the study room was still closed. On opening the unlocked door to the room, the body of Senior Staff Sergeant Jansen was found slouched in a couch, with a gunshot wound to his head.
His personal-issued service revolver was found lying on his stomach. A single discharged round was found in the chamber of the revolver. The other four rounds were found in the chamber. He was pronounced dead at scene at about 12.25 pm. There were no signs of struggle.
Police are investigating the unnatural death.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Superintendent Jessica Kwok said, ¡±The officer had not indicated or mention any work-related or personal problems or shown any such signs to his supervisors and colleagues. We are in contact with the officer¡¯s family members and are rendering assistance to them.¡±
