EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICE
STATISTICS (JAN - JUN 2005) |
 |
|
EMERGENCY AMBULANCE CALLS |
For the first six months of 2005, SCDF
Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) responded to a total of 43,515 calls. |
This constitutes a 4.1% increase (1,728 in
absolute numbers) over the 41,787 cases responded to last year (Jan ¨C
Jun 04). The breakdown of the different types of EAS calls is shown in
Table 1: |

NON-EMERGENCY CALLS |
As reflected in
Table 1, the number of
non-emergency calls for the first 6 months of 2005 has decreased by 2.1%
to 3,074 calls. |
For the same period last year, there were
3,139 calls.
Graph 1 shows the number of non-emergency calls for the
first 6 months of 2005. |
The SCDF appeals to members of public to
call the 4-digit non-emergency hotline, ¡°1777¡± when the situation at
hand is not an emergency or is not life threatening. |
This will help relief the SCDF ambulances
significantly, better enabling them to respond to critical medical cases
where fast response, early treatment and stabilization, and early
transport to hospitals can enhance the patients¡¯ chances of survival. |
FALSE ALARM CALLS |
False alarm cases are situations where SCDF
emergency ambulances are requested to proceed to particular locations by
callers. However, on arrival, the ambulance crews discover that there
was no sign of any person or persons requiring medical assistance. |
For the first 6 months of 2005, there were a
total of 1,177 false alarm calls. This is a decrease of 324 cases or
21.6% when compared to the figure for the same period last year, which
registered 1,501 cases.
Graph 2 shows the number of false alarm calls
for the first 6 months of 2005. |
SCDF appeals to the public not to abuse the
¡°995¡± Emergency Telephone Number by making false calls. Such calls,
besides draining our ambulance resources, can inevitably deprive people
who are in genuine need of emergency medical assistance. |
