The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) will
be co-organising a fundraising concert with the Mountbatten PAP
Community Foundation and the Mountbatten Constituency Sports Club on
Wed, 18 Jan and Thu, 19 Jan 2006 at 8pm in the Victoria Concert Hall.
This event is sponsored by Christofori Music School. |

The concert features internationally
acclaimed pianist and conductor, Shi Shu Cheng and his family of
talented musicians from China. |
|
Proceeds will benefit NAFA Scholarship Fund
and the educational programmes and activities of the Mountbatten
Constituency. |
|
Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Manpower will be
the Guest of Honour at the premiere on 18 Jan 2006. |
|
Mr Shi Shu Cheng was one of the composers of the
piano concerto ¡°Yellow River¡± »ÆºÓ¸ÖÇÙÐ×àÇú. His adaptation of this piece was
recorded and declared by critics as ¡°an outstanding and authoritative
interpretation of the concerto¡±. |
|
In recognition of his superb skills and high
performance standards, The Hong Kong Times dubbed him ¡°A Rare Pianist
Maestro, a Gem of the Chinese Music Arena¡±. |
|
When the China Philharmonic Orchestra was
founded in 2000, he was appointed the Assistant Artistic Director. |

Biography of Mr Shi Shu Cheng |

Shi Shucheng is a renowned pianist and
conductor in China. In his childhood, he was already awarded the first
prize at the Beijing joint Concert for Children. |
|
In 1958, he was admitted into the music
school attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where
he studied under the guidance of professor Li Changsun. He gave his
piano recital debut at age of sixteen. In 1969, after graduated from the
Conservatory with flying colors he became a soloist of the Central
Philharmonic Society of China. |

Shi Shucheng studied conducting with Mr
David Gilbert, an American conductor and made his conducting debut with
the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in 1981. |
|
Two years later he won the DAAD scholarship
of the Federal Republic of Germany and a Scholarship from Friedrich-Naumann.
He enrolled at the Cologne Musikhochschule and followed the well-known
conductor, maestro Volk Wangenheim. During his three-year study, Shi
Shucheng had his guest appearances in more then ten cities and performed
in television programs in Germany. |

Shi Shucheng has given more than a thousand
concerts at home and abroad. He has a wide repertoire of Chinese and
western classical works. |
|
As a soloist, Shi Shucheng has cooperated
with numerous well-known conductors; as a conductor he has also worked
with some famous soloists and symphony orchestras. Shi Shucheng has
recorded a lot of recordings with various international labels. His
playing was widely acclaimed as the most prominent and authoritative
interpretation by both musicians and critics at home and abroad. |

Shi¡¯s superb skills and excellent
performance standards have both received high appreciation by the
critics and also earned him two awards presented by the Chinese Ministry
of Culture in 1981 and 1991.He is dubbed the ¡°gem of the Chinese music
arena¡± and ¡°a rare pianist maestro¡±. |
|
After the China Philharmonic Orchestra was
founded in May 2000, Shi shucheng was appointed as the Assistant
Artistic Director of the orchestra. |
