Always on the road headlining gigs since 2002, punk superstars Simple Plan
will be crossing continents this year to give Singapore a good dose of their
notoriously exciting live shows on Wednesday 30 Mar 2005 at the Singapore
International Convention and Exhibition Centre. |
Named after the Billy Bob Thornton movie, Simple Plan are a five-piece band
from Montreal, Canada, comprising of high school pals Pierre Bouvier (vocals)
Jeff Stinco (lead guitar), David Desrosiers (bass) Sebastien Lefebvre (guitar)
and Chuck Comeau(drums). |
Amongst their many accolades, Simple Plan were recently voted the Best Pop Act
at the MTV Asia Awards 2005 and their success can be attributed to the band's
songwriting savvy-ness, dedication to their fans and an overwhelming work
ethic. |
Having blazed the trail to the 'pop punk' genre with their debut album No
Pads, No Helmets, ... Just Balls, the band have been touring non-stop, with a
knack for singing the opinions of the underdog teen combined with genuine
charm and boisterous behaviour befitting a chart-topping band. |
Their Top-10 hits include up-tempo tracks "Addicted," "I'd Do Anything", "I'm
Just a Kid" and the mega-ballad "Perfect." |
The much anticipated second album, Still Not
Getting Any... was recorded in their hometown with famed producer Bob Rock who
is best known for his work with Metallica, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and the Cult.
Rock traveled to Montreal to record the band in their native surroundings, in
order to stay true to their signature sound. |
In Singapore, the first single "Welcome To My
Life" was number one for three weeks on Perfect Ten 98.7FM and the album,
"Still Not Getting Any..." has already achieved a GOLD certification. |
"The record is a bit different from the first one,
but it's still us," Lefebvre is quick to point out on the second album.
However, although Simple Plan are open to experimenting with the formula that
made them famous, their biggest concern is not letting down their fans,
because they are who this album is for. |
"The connection, ultimately between us and our
fans, is the most important thing we have," explains Desrosiers. "They are the
ones who make or break our album, not some music critic who's already made his
or her mind up about us," Stinco adds. "Without them, I would probably be
working a nine-to-five job that I hate." |
Apart from their Jakarta and Singapore dates,
Simple Plan will also headline Bangkok (March 27), Kuala Lumpur (March 29) and
Manila (March 31) with fellow Canadian pop-rock artist Avril Lavigne, voted
Favourite Female Artist at the recent MTV Asia Awards. |
