ACT 3 International will burst onto the
children’s arts scene once again with yet another thrilling and mind-blowing
adventure, its 6th Prudential Children First! Singapore International Festival
for Children. |
From 3 to 20 March 2005, Singapore’s annual
homegrown arts festival that is dedicated to high quality children’s theatre
will feature an international and eclectic mix of dramatic classics and
unconventional, stunning performances. |
There will be 58 performances by 7 professional
productions from South Africa, Canada, Peru, Italy and Argentina for children
between three and 12 years old. |
About 20,000 audiences are expected at the
Festival, spanning over 18 days and offering various arts forms from mime,
dance, puppetry, visual theatre, music, physical theatre, storytelling to
comedy - you will be struck by them all. |
Every show is a must-go to see to believe what the
imagination can sow and reap! Short Stories, Tomas Kubinek, Squawk, plus Four
Men, Four Mics, No Instruments bring live children’s theatre to a level never
before reached on our shores with amazing novelty and freshness. |
Even time-honoured and well-known favourites such
as Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen
and The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde will break down walls to spellbind the
young as well as the old with their original, surprising treatment. |
Ruby Lim-Yang, Artistic Director of the company,
and a relentless advocate of highly inventive work, says, “ Personally, I seek
to present Children’s Theatre that is clever and imaginative; not necessarily
with props and fancy costumes. There is nothing for our children to figure out
if everything is there for them.” |
“Very good work made with sensitivity and care for
young audiences tap into their natural desire to learn. It paves the way for
children to understand the world they live in, and to have a sense of how they
feel about things, issues and situations. Good theatre suggests and offers. It
neither prescribes nor concludes. Unlike adults, children are open, receptive
and have the ability to stay non-judgemental. They know how to connect and
reflect.” |
Mrs Lim-Yang encourages, “Think of the arts
festival as an adventure for the entire family, to enjoy a fantastic range of
genres, to enter the realm of the extraordinary, to discover and rediscover
the beauty of the imagination, to be engaged in the most creative and curious
moments and to be part of the action, interaction and connection.” |
