MAS Launches 2005 Singapore Identity Plan (Urban Villages) Coins
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has launched a second set of coins to commemorate the Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA) Singapore Identity Plan featuring Urban Villages.
Coin Design
The five coin designs are based on the five areas in the Urban Villages cluster - Anak Bukit, Coronation, Jalan Leban & Casuarina Road, Springleaf and Thomson Village.
These areas have evolved into village centres that are popular focal points for dining, shopping and entertainment with the local community. The obverse of the coins bear the Singapore Arms with the year 2005.

Limited Worldwide Mintage
The coins will be issued on Tuesday, 27 December 2005. The details of the coins are:

a) $1 Silver Proof Coin
17.30 grams of 999 fine silver with selective colour application.  Coin diameter of 33.00 mm.  Mintage of 8,000 pieces per design only.  Issue price:  $ 39.00 each (GST inclusive).

b) $1 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Coin
18.00 grams of cupro-nickel.  Coin diameter of 33.00 mm.  Proof-like condition and mintage is based on demand.   Issue price:   $11.00 each  (GST inclusive).
The 2005 Singapore Identity Plan Coins are also available in premium sets:

a) 5-in-1 Silver Proof Coin Set
5 Silver Proof Coins featuring the five areas in the Urban Villages.  Issue price:  $248 (GST inclusive).  Only 800 sets.

b) 5-in-1 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Coin Set
5 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Coins featuring the five areas in the Urban Villages.  Issue price: $72 (GST inclusive).  Only 800 sets.

c)   10-in-1 Set
5 Silver Proof Coins and 5 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Coins featuring the five areas in the Urban Villages.  Issue Price:  $338 (GST inclusive).  Only 388 sets.

About URA's Identity Plan:
URA's Identity Plan aims to preserve the unique "essence" of places that are close to Singaporeans' hearts by recognising, retaining and enhancing them. These areas are grouped into various clusters. From 2005 to 2008, MAS will issue a set of coins each year featuring one of the clusters.
