Goal Two -
Lifelong Employability for ITE Graduates
The second goal is to help
ITE graduates remain ‘career relevant’ for the fast-changing
workplace. One of the key initiatives is the ReNEW Plus
programme, which will offer a range of both formal and short
“on-demand” courses to upgrade or reskill ITE graduates, to
ensure their value and continuing employability.
Another programme is to
establish joint certifications with global industry
partners. Such joint certifications will give ITE
students an advantage in having up-to-date technology and
knowledge for the employment market. Some of these areas include
joint-industry certifications in information technology, which
will be launched with industry players such as Microsoft and Sun
Microsystems.
Goal Three – An Increased Global Presence for ITE
The third goal is to enhance ITE’s
international presence by broadening ITE’s strategic alliances
and collaboration with the international vocational technical
education community.
Through international collaboration,
ITE will deepen its linkages for learning, sharing and exchange
programmes with institutions in both the advanced and developing
countries, such as USA, Canada, Germany, China, India and
Vietnam.
ITE will further extend the availability of
its courses through Singapore-based private training providers
who wish to offer ITE courses with their local partners in
overseas countries under a licensing framework. ITE is the first
post-secondary educational institution to offer its national ITE
certifications overseas under such a licensing agreement.
Goal Four – An Enhanced Core Capability for Organisational
Excellence
To be a global leader, ITE will also
strengthen its core capabilities in technical education by
establishing Centres of Technology (COTs) in the three ITE
Colleges.
The COTs will develop core capabilities in
niche areas, in collaboration with key industry partners. In
this way, the Colleges can also begin to differentiate
themselves and forge their individual identities. For the start,
the Colleges have identified their niche areas as follows:
| College |
Niche Areas |
| 1) ITE College East |
• Building Automation
• Info-Communications Technology |
| 2) ITE College Central
|
• Info-Communications Technology
• Industrial Automation |
| 3) ITE College West |
• Precision Engineering
• Automation Applications |
ITE has accumulated much expertise and experience in vocational
technical education. A Centre of Excellence for
Vocational and Technical Education will be set up to
focus on the development of educational capabilities in areas
such as curriculum design, learning technologies and
performance-based assessments and campus development.
This Centre will be the depository of ITE’s
experiences and tasked to undertake educational research,
collaboration with other leading institutions, provide
consultancy services or help benchmark ITE’s capabilities in
technical education.
Conclusion
In conclusion, ITE has achieved a significant
transformation as a post-secondary institution since its
establishment in 1992. It has created a unique ITE Brand of
Education that is not only attractive to school leavers and
adult learners, but also widely recognised locally and
internationally for its relevance, quality and values.
The new “ITE Advantage”
will take ITE beyond its current vision of a world-class
technical education institution.
The “ITE Advantage” will help ITE
achieve its new vision of “A Global Leader in Technical
Education”. It will take advantage of the opportunities
presented in the ever-changing global, social and economic
environment. It will create new competitive advantages for ITE
students and stakeholders in facing the challenges of the
knowledge economy. It is about building the next generation of a
globally competitive and highly-skilled workforce.
In doing so, the “ITE Advantage”
will further enhance the unique ITE Brand of Education, an
Education that is “Hands-on, Minds-on and Hearts-on”.
