Singapore Dog, published at the
end of 2002, is the only locally written and published guidebook to owning a
dog in Singapore.
|
Singapore Dog
meets the unique needs of Singaporean and Malaysian dog owners, something that
no book produced overseas can hope to achieve. It is written by Dr Lennie Lee,
an experienced Singaporean veterinary surgeon and Ilsa Sharp, a Singapore dog
owner.
|
There are some
37,000 dog owners registered in Singapore alone. This book, which is meant for
both the dog owner and anyone thinking of getting a dog, is all about
responsible dog ownership – how to keep a dog healthy, happy, and socially
well adjusted, so that it can interact well with your friends, neighbours and
other dogs.
|
If you own a dog
in Singapore or Malaysia, you just can’t pass this book by. And the more
copies this book sells, the more money will go to the Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in both Singapore and Malaysia.
|
Dr Lennie
Lee is a Singapore veterinary surgeon who attended the University of Sydney
on a Colombo Plan Scholarship, graduating in 1974. After working with the
government’s Primary Production Department (today known as the Agri-food and
Veterinary Authority) from 1974 to 1978, he went into private practice,
founding The Animal Clinic in 1978 with a partner Dr James Tan. Today, the
practice has grown to three clinics with nine veterinary surgeons.
|
Ilsa Sharp,
British-born journalist and published author, has lived in Singapore and the
Asia-Pacific region since 1968. For many years she lived on Mount Faber with a
family of three dogs, three cats and her husband, Siva Choy. Her first meeting
with Dr Lennie Lee was when a black cobra spat venom in the eyes of her dog
Sumi.
