Jewellery
designer-artist Christopher Goh’s first solo exhibition - From Here To
Infinity - will take place at Block43 Studio Gallery from 14 - 21 May 2004.
|
|
Christopher’s
quirky installation sculptures reflect his background in jewellery design as
well as his ongoing interest in science and technology.
|
|
Using
an unusual combination of light, mirrors and techno gadgetry, Christopher has
created a series of fascinating conceptual artworks to express his views on
variety of issues, from human cloning and the loss of individuality to the
transience of human existence.
|
|
This
evocative exhibition will leave the audience with a renewed sense of wonder at
the beauty of life.
|
|
The Exhibition:
|
|
From
Here To Infinity re-defines art in a fascinating interplay between new media
technology and metaphysical concepts. Thoughtful questions are subtly
raised by Christopher’s whimsically beautiful artworks, designed to surprise
and interact with the most jaded audience.
|
|
The
journey begins in the here and now with Clone
Me, a reactive work comprising a set of homogenous cubes that emit
humorous sounds when they are picked up.
The work highlights our struggle for individuality and identity in a
faceless urban society where the mass media has given rise to an increasingly
homogenous global culture.
|
|
The
next work,
Holding Space, is a cube as
well – but a magical one! Lift up the box and peek in to see how
multi-faceted layers of light and reflection can transform an ordinary space
into a sparkling new universe in your hands.
|
|
The
final work, Light to Infinity
meditates on the idea of infinity, an intriguing concept beloved by artists
and scientists since time immemorial. Suspended from the ceiling, this dynamic
light sculpture set frees light rays to reflect and refract endlessly in a
playground composed of iridescent glass and sleek metal.
|
|
Curated
to dialogue with Block43’s “whitebox” space, the exhibition compels the
engagement of the viewer beyond a mere appreciation of aesthetics into an
exciting metaphysical adventure.
