Hallo everyone |
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas over the
weekend. It's the last week of the year. School will be opening next Monday.
This is the time to take stock of our progress over the year and put forward
our resolutions for 2005. |
For Getforme Singapore, 2004 has been a
watershed year. For the first time, we have become profitable. Our efforts
over the past four years have not been in vain. |
However, we have not succeeded in some places. Our
Singapore Alumni section has been empty of participation since it commenced.
Our Singapore Forums has yet to find its way ahead although it has about
40-plus users now. We had a community section for Singaporeans based overseas
some time back. It failed to garner support and we had to place it on the
backburner. |
But, this time around, we think it is timely to
resurrect the idea of a community for Singaporeans based overseas. I think any
Web site focussing on Singapore should indeed have such a section, without
which things would not be complete. |
So, we have come up with Hello Singapore
- Overseas Singaporeans. Those of you who are staying overseas are
encouraged to join this new forum-based section. We have no plans to lay rules
to restrict you chaps. It's meant to be a place for you to mingle and share
news - good or bad - and also announce events and happenings in your very own
community overseas, be it in Australia or Canada. |
It may take some time for the idea to work. This
time, we will keep the section online even though it may remain empty of
participation. Online access is expected to increase dramatically over the
next five years, and we want to be ready for the next wave when it arrives.
|
Hello Singapore has been categorised into
countries. These countries are where Singaporeans are staying currently or
have settled down in. If you are in a country not yet listed in the forum,
tell us and we will include it. |
For now, we have opened only one sub-section,
General, in each of the countries featured in Hello Singapore
for forum users to post happenings, events and incidents. In time, we hope to
be able to open more sub-sections such as Employment or Getting Around. |
Feel free to come in and look around. If you wish
to participate, simply register in the section for a free user account and
post your message. |
To add the minimum protection for the new forum,
we require new users to register using a valid email address. Users can
commence posting messages as soon as they have activated the confirmation link
in the Welcome email sent to the email address used in the registration
process. There are no other checks. We also do not sell email addresses
maintained in our databases. In fact, we do not divulge any information to
anyone. |
We do not aim for Hello Singapore to be the
No. 1 overseas Singaporean community forum in the world. That is not our
intention for setting up this new section. We just wish for it to come alive
with your participation, for Hello Singapore has been set up with you
in mind, not any selfish commercial interest. |
And, if you run into any problems, just email me
at editor@getforme.com. Also, if you
have any suggestions for the forum, please let me know. |

It's quite easy to find this logo because we have
placed it in the main sections of our Web site. |
