The most-anticipated Jazz Festival
in Singapore opens at CHIJMES on Nov 7. This successful series, currently in
its 9th year, has garnered a huge following of locals and tourists alike.
Since its inception, CHIJAZZ has
played an important role in putting this timeless genre on the music calendar
of Singapore.
The festival aspires to promote
and showcase famous home-grown jazz musicians in Singapore and the ensemble
has never failed to impress.
CHIJMES provides the perfect
setting for good weekend entertainment under the stars - a night of
merry-making, drinks and good music. Heineken is the official beer at CHIJAZZ
Festival.
Food and drinks will be available
at the stalls by various CHIJMES tenants. This year's line-up celebrates all
things jazz and is aimed at getting people to enjoy the finer things in life.
Louis Soliano & Friends, ChromaZone, Wiired and the Singapore Stompers
will be serenading the audience with a selection of jazz classics, motown,
fusion and blues.
Louis Soliano was described in the
American publication, Downbeat, as 'one of Asia's finest drummers'. Soliano
has worked with music legends like Sarah Vaughan, Jimmy Witherspoon, The
Platters and Patty Page. This veteran has a career spanning 35 years and will
be performing alongside an ensemble of old friends at the festival.

ChromaZone brings to CHIJMES an
eclectic mix of musicians, each with their own but complimentary style. This
band is headed by Rick Smith, an accomplished jazz guitarist with three
decades of professional experience. Sensational vocals are provided by the
vibrant and talented Denise Mininfield. Firmly grounded in mainstream jazz,
the band is just as comfortable belting out the blues, fusion and motown.

Wiired is the latest note-worthy
addition to Singapore?s jazz music scene. Its unique sound is a result of the
fusion between jazz and funk, an energetic improvisation of arrangements and
genres.
Keeping strictly to the Dixieland
style of jazz, the Singapore Stompers will captivate the audience with its fun
and entertaining sets. Their happy, upbeat music is perfect for the whole
family.
In recognition of CHIJMES' efforts
and contributions towards the arts, the National Arts Council (NAC) conferred
CHIJMES the venerable 'Patron of The Arts' award. This is in addition to
'Supporter of the Arts', 'Associate of The Arts' and 'Friend of The Arts'
awards in recent years.
Admission is free. So gather round
your friends and family and soak in the historical atmosphere of CHIJMES with
all that jazz.
