50,000 'Foodies' descend upon Food Fiesta 2004
Over 50,000 food-lovers ate, drank and were merry at this year’s Food Fiesta 2004 held at Suntec Singapore from 30th July to 1st August.
The event provided local and international vendors with a platform to showcase their products and services, aptly reflecting the theme “A Feast of East to West”.
Officially opened by Mr. Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Mayor of North East CDC and MP for Aljunied GRC, Food Fiesta provided visitors with a mix of exciting activities like the first North East Iron Chef Competition.
As a tribute to Singapore’s 39th National Day, Food Fiesta presented a 1.944m high Kaya Toast Tower. Also on display were exquisite chocolate sculptures, created by master pastry chefs. These depicted Singapore’s cultural and architectural icons, such as the St Andrew’s cathedral.
Celebrity body-builder Chef Alvin Koh and guest MediaCorp artiste held a cooking demonstration which was a crowd-pleaser. Other activities included demonstrations of the "Art of Serving Tea" using a traditional 1-metre long nose tea kettle, and 'la mien' (or noodle-pulling).
Said Suntec Integrated Media’s Senior Project Manager, Doreen Goh, “Food Fiesta 2004 is firmly fixed as a major annual event on the ‘foodie’ calendar! Our special format, including themed pavilions such as the Singapura Kitchen, which makes our event so different from other food shows, was a big hit with visitors. We were also
encouraged to see a healthy mix of local Singaporeans, foreign professionals and visiting tourists, all enjoying the exquisite tastes of Singapore and other countries under one roof.”
