Animation enthusiasts are in for a
treat at AnimaXtion 04! Mingle with your favourite anime and manga characters;
try your hands at creating your every own animation works at the modelling
workshops or catch yet-to-be released pilots of animation projects and learn
the secrets of leading international and local animators’ successful works. |
All these and more will be
happening at the AnimaXtion Fair and the AnimaXtion Symposium, held as part of
this year’s Asia Media Festival, which kicks off on 22 November 2004. |
AnimaXtion 04 is the mega year-end
animation event organised by the Media Development Authority (MDA). |
Featuring two public events -
AnimaXtion Fair and AnimaXtion Symposium - AnimaXtion 04 is where fans,
professionals and hobbyists can meet to enjoy and celebrate animation as an
entertainment as well as an art form. |
AnimaXtion Fair |
The excitement begins with
AnimaXtion Fair, a four-day extravaganza from 25 to 28 November 2004, 11am to
9pm, at Hall 5 Singapore Expo, 1 Expo Drive, admission free. |
There is something for everyone at
the AnimaXtion Fair, with a wide range of activities packed with fun and
interaction. Enthusiasts can look forward to cutting-edge animation software
and hardware, media schools offering comprehensive animation courses, toys and
merchandise, publications and everything in between. |
Comic fans will also be enthralled
by the wide selection of titles and a host of merchandise such as animated
figurines and other memorabilia that will be on sale during the Fair. |
For those interested in picking up
the art form as a hobby, it will be where you can meet and connect with people
who share the same passion. Hobbyist clubs will display illustrated works and
also share tips of the craft. |
At the AnimaXtion Theatre, fans
can feast their eyes on a buffet of original digital media projects, produced
by local media companies. |
A preview showcase will be lined
up with the latest pilot episodes and unreleased works: these include Nanoboy
from Scrawl Studio, an original animated series about a microscopic superhero
who fights off germs and other villains too small for the naked eye, and Tao
Shu – The Warrior Boy from Peach Blossom Media, a new animation series that
revolves around Tao Shu and his alter ego Warrior Boy as they embark on
amazing adventures in his own backyard. |
Workshops where you can experience
the actual animation production process will also be held. Media experts will
be on hand to demonstrate the finer points of manipulating animation software
and devices. |
Other activities include the
Cosplay Character Show where anime and manga fans will grace the stage with
their elaborate costumes and performances. |
AnimaXtion Symposium |
AnimaXtion Symposium comes next on
30 November 2004, 7.30pm to 10pm, at Hall 5 Cathay Cineplex Orchard, Level 6,
Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, 8 Grange Road. |
Tickets at $6.50 are available at
the Cathay Cineplex Orchard box office (Level 5) from 15 November 2004. |
Definitely not an experience to be
missed, the AnimaXtion Symposium is the place where aspiring artistes can pose
questions to guest speakers, while fans will enjoy yet-to-be released works. |
Acclaimed producers like Akitaro
Daichi and Yoshiro Kataoka from Japan and Singapore’s Nickson Fong will talk
about their latest works and share their experiences in producing creative,
appealing and award-winning animation works. Details of the speakers are

Participants at the Symposium will
also be the first outside Japan to get sneaks of Yoshiro Kataoka’s latest
anime series, Zipang. |
The winner of the Best Director at
the Tokyo International Animation Fair 2002, Akitaro Daichi will then talk
about his latest self-produced animation work, Makasete Iruka! which is the
first Japanese animation to feature sign language. |
Another highlight of the evening
will be the unveiling of the latest animation projects by Singapore’s very own
Nickson Fong. This will be the first public event that he is speaking at ever
since his return from Hollywood to set up his own production company, Egg
Story Creative Production Pte Ltd. |
The CEO of the MDA, Dr Christopher
Chia, said interest in the animation and special effects industry was
increasing. “From comics to CGI works, the animation industry is new country
waiting to be explored and developed. By organising AnimaXtion 04, the MDA
wants to ignite the Singaporean passion for animation and inspire people to
venture into and grow this up-and-coming industry. We see AnimaXtion 04 as the
event to turn this vision into a reality.” |
