News Flash Today Wednesday 9 Feb 2000 In Singapore Fire destroyed a wet market at Kebun Baru Mall in Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 early yesterday morning. The fire gutted at least 74 of the 168 stalls. A former Environment Ministry (ENV) officer was charged yesterday with cheating the ministry of almost S$770 000 while working there. Wong Seng Toong, 46, then a senior technical officer, cheated the ministry by helping two contractors to make false or inflated claims for work and took a cut out of the payments made by the ministry. The 27-year-old woman who was raped in the Bukit Batok Nature Park on Sunday morning is now brain dead. Her injuries suggest she may have been attacked by more than one person. The CID's Special Investigation Section has taken charge of the case.
