It's 2 days to the next millennium.
Get for me: 1. Millennium Swing From 6.30 pm on New Year's Eve, the entire stretch of Orchard Road - from Forum Galleria to Centrepoint Shopping Centre- will be closed to traffic for the biggest street party Singapore has ever seen since the Singapore Swing many years ago. The streets will be dressed up in lights, with laser beams shooting along Orchard Road. Strobe lights will be set up to simulate a throbbing disco ambience. The celebration will culminate in a 'live' global satellite broadcast of a star-studded concert to help raise funds for local youth and environmental causes. At the same time, the millennium celebrations in 30 cities around the world will be beamed 'live' to the party guests at this Millennium Swing. If you can't make it to the party, fret not. Watch part of the action on the internet using the link at the top of this page. 2. Marina Square and Suntec City celebrations At Marina Square's Southern Plaza Stage, watch Tanya Chua perform on stage. Joining her will be Anna Belle Francis, the host of Vidz and Sheikh Haikel from the play Army Daze. At Suntec City's Tropics Atrium, catch the performances of singer-songwriter Jai (former member of Kick) and two local bands, Stoned Revivals and Flying Pills. The roads surrounding Suntec City's Fountain of Wealth will be closed for a colourful ASEAN parade. A giant laser clock will also be beamed onto the office towers of Suntec City all through the night and into the new millennium. At midnight, the stages at Marina Square and Suntec City will burst with a blaze of lights by hi-tech pyrotechnics, confetti guns, lasers and search lights. Suntec City's Fountain of Wealth will also shoot up 30 metres high to mark the auspicious start to the new millennium. 50 000 early birds will each receive a free countdown goodie bag filled with loads of great gifts. These gifts will be given away from 4 pm on New Year's Eve at Marina Square's Southern Plaza and at Suntec City (in front of Towers 3 & 4).
