ANNEX 1: INFORMATION ON NAFA SCHOLARS

1. Mr. Jason Cheo, BA (Hons)
Multimedia Design

Jason Cheo holds a Diploma in Multimedia
(with Distinction) in 2003 from NAFA. For his numerous awards and
excellence in studies, Jason was awarded the NAFA Scholarship
2005/2006 to pursue his degree studies. He has said: ¡°A blank piece
of paper could suggest a beginning in the creative process of
communication that is not restricted by any rules. It is up to the
audience to interpret the creator's intention." His major project,
entitled ¡°Transition¡±, looks into enabling a group of people to
interact simultaneously with information and entertainment
interface. This interactive installation will attempt to explore and
showcase the possibilities of enhancing interaction among:
A. People in a public space during
transition
B. Advertisers and consumers in a public
space during transition

¡°Transition¡±, offers a new form of
interactive infotainment for people in public places, and changing
how people behave during transition. The underlying architecture
provides a framework for realizing similar installations with
different types of multimedia content.

2. Mr. Justin Lee, BA (Hons) Fine
Art: Painting & Drawing

Justin Lee is a prolific and critically
acclaimed installation artist. Before being a recipient of NAFA
Scholarship from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, he has
already received the National Arts Council, Georgette-Chen Arts
Scholarship for his Diploma in Fine Art studies with LASALLE-SIA
College of the Arts, Singapore which he completed in 1999. He has
been an active artist since 1996, having won commendations in
several art competitions such as the UOB Painting of the year and
Philip Morris Singapore Art Awards.
In 2000, he was selected to complete a
6-month intensive training programme at the Tyler Print Workshop in
New York, under Mr. Ken Tyler¡¯s supervision. He returned and worked
as an apprentice with the Singapore Tyler Institute for two years.
Justin has also participated in
countless exhibitions in Singapore such as ¡°Made in Singapore¡±
(2002), ¡°Read the Small Prints¡± (2003), and more recently,
¡°Reconstruction of the City¡± (2004), and ¡°Proof-4, the print show¡±
(2004).
His Installation work was also showcased
as a video documentation at the prestigious Venice Biennale 9th
International Architecture Exhibition 2004. His 3rd solo exhibition
at Esplanade Tunnel (April/July2005) has been invited to participate
in the Singapore Art Festival in Japan (24 July 05, Aoyama kottou
douri, Tokyo).
Justin Lee¡¯s body of works brings to
light the paradoxes life in the city mediated by signs and global
brands from Eastern and Western cultures. He believes that art plays
an important part in helping people to grow and to become
self-aware. His current works reflect on how text influences and is
circulated by the users in our daily lifestyle. He extends his
ongoing printmaking and mixed-media works into the installation and
performance modes: For the first time in his art practice, he will
be presenting an installation-performance during the opening
ceremony of the SVA Degree Show 2006.
