year’s National Day Parade, Esplanade sets the stage for a

musical performances and visual arts installations. The five-day
celebration takes us on a musical journey through time over the
past four decades and into the future, spotlighting our talents of
tomorrow. To add to the festive ambience, Esplanade will be
suitably transformed into a sea of red and white and its
distinctive domes brilliantly lit in alternating red and white
through the use of lighting effects.

It’s all happening along the Waterfront and under the stars at
Esplanade as we countdown to Singapore’s 40th birthday!
Esplanade’s scenic Waterfront will be a flurry of activity with
free outdoor concerts and roving artists every evening. In line
with the National Day theme ‘The Future Is Ours to Make’, we will
kick off with a series of outdoor concerts celebrating the
dynamism of our youth who will shape the future of Singapore. The
young musicians, all under 25 years of age, will be sharing their
personal aspirations and hopes for the future through song. The
winners of this year’s Singapore Youth Festival’s talent quest
will also be another highlight. So, take your pick from jazz to
hip-hop to rock, plus some heartfelt renditions of national day
songs at Stage@Powerhouse.
In addition, be sure to catch our nightly burst of confetti that
will shower the Waterfront with colour and magic, delighting young
and old alike. We bring the vibrancy of street art into our indoor
spaces by gathering the best graffiti art from local youths. The
public will also be invited to pen their personal wishes for
Singapore through a giant chalk ‘greeting card’ for Singapore at
the Forecourt.
National Day Concert
A special Concert Hall performance on National Day takes on a
contemplative theme as we reflect on our nation’s 40 years of
achievements. Join us on this musical travel through time with
40-year old Tan as he traces his growing years and the aspirations
of Singapore and Singaporeans. Your travel companions are none
other than some of Singapore’s favourite artists such as Kumar,
Michaela, Dawn Ho and Rahimah Rahim.
After the concert, the mood builds up with live telecasts of the
National Day Parade in both the Concert Hall and along the
Waterfront, which will also be the choice spot to catch the
spectacular fireworks display organised by the NDP committee.
However, the party doesn’t
stop here. Join us as the next day with one of Singapore’s best
young talents, Corrinne May, as she returns for a special
one-night only homecoming concert at Esplanade Concert Hall.
Join us as Esplanade ushers in Singapore’s 40th year of
independence, with one birthday celebration for all to remember!

Singapore As I See It – A Graffiti Presentation
5 – 7 August 2005
Graffiti is regarded as an unwanted nuisance, or as vandalism that
must be repaired. However, graffiti art is a form of
self-expression and creativity.
As Singapore turns 40 this year, what are the impressions the
younger generation has of her in the years to come? What about a
foreigner? What does he see in Singapore?
In conjunction with the National Day celebrations, Millenia Walk
will be flying in Jai Moodie, a very talented graffiti artist from
London.
He will be expressing his impressions of Singapore using graffiti
art; painting on wooden boards the different aspects of Singapore
as he sees it. We will be inviting local graffiti artists to
join him in this creation.
In addition, there will be a workshop for shoppers to experience
the fun of graffiti art.
The wooden boards will form the backdrop of the Singapore Fashion
Designers Showcase. This runway show will highlight the
versatility and quality of Singapore’s fashion talents and labels.
