Highlights of
Christmas in the Tropics
Christmas
Light-up (13 Nov 04 - 2 Jan 05)
This year, the Christmas Light-up will be extended from Tanglin,
Scotts and Orchard Road, to the Marina Bay area. One of the
highlights of this year?s Christmas Light-up is the seven 30-foot
dancing Christmas trees situated at the Scotts and Heeren junctions.
A trio of Christmas trees will be dancing at the Scotts Junction
while four Christmas trees will be grooving to the tunes of carols
at the Heeren Junction.
(Please refer to Annex
A for the show schedule of the dancing trees.)
Tanglin, Scotts and
Orchard Road will also be transformed into a `Magical Christmas
Garden', adorned with beautiful flowers and sinuous vines,
shimmering lights, glittering poinsettias and garlands entwined with
Christmas bells, glistening golden stars, butterflies, fairies,
candy canes and toadstools.
At the Marina Bay area,
stars of different shapes and sizes will take centre-stage under the
theme of Wonderland of Christmas Stars. The Christmas Light-up will
be switched on every night from 7pm to midnight. It will be extended
to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays; and 6am on Christmas Eve and New
Year's Eve.
(Please refer to Annex
B for the fact sheet on the Christmas Light Up.)
Silkpro
Celebration Tree @ Orchard
Visitors and locals can also look forward to the tallest Christmas
tree ever staged in Singapore during the festive season - an awe
inspiring Christmas tree soaring 100 feet into the air, at Orchard
(next to Orchard Road MRT station).
To add to the festive
ambience, there will also be a 2000-square-foot skating rink, as
well as a fun-filled carnival for the young and old, at Orchard
Green. There will also be loads of fun, food, games and activities
for families, and festive performances every night from 7.30pm, and
countdown concerts on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, to add to
the cheer.
Christmas Street
Parade
Another new highlight of this year's Christmas celebrations is a
Christmas street parade on 18 Dec 04 at the heart of Orchard Road
(from Scotts Junction to Heeren Junction). Complementing the
Christmas Light-up along Orchard Road, this display of colourful
lighted floats and performances by local and international dancers,
musicians and bands will add colour and bring more festive cheer
during this Christmas season.
Countdown Parties
This year, party-goers will have the chance to rave from dusk to
dawn at one great countdown party after another, islandwide. This
includes seven different huge countdown parties on New Year's Eve at
Orchard Green, Chijmes, Esplanade, Clark Quay, the Arts House,
Sentosa and Downtown East. On Christmas Eve, Singapore will also
herald Christmas with Countdown parties at Orchard Green and Chjimes.
VISA Promotion
island-wide
To offer visitors more reasons to visit and shop in Singapore during
this festive season, many shopping malls will be offering
irresistible promotions and great shopping deals.
This is the first
Christmas that the STB is working with VISA International to offer

experience while they are in Singapore. On top of instant draw
prizes, visitors who spend S$30 on their VISA card can get the
chance to win a fully paid vacation for four to Singapore, worth up

Families, party-goers
and revellers will find an endless array of fun events and exciting
entertainment. From dazzling streets and lavishly dressed malls to
great shopping deals, diverse dining options, fun parties and
exciting events, there is something for everyone during this festive
season in Singapore.
