In response to media
queries, the MFA Spokesman said:
"The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta continues to monitor the
situation closely. As of 2000 Hrs (Singapore time), our Embassy in
Jakarta has been in touch with 17 Singaporeans who were staying at
the Marriott Hotel. Twelve of these Singaporeans have been given
consular assistance including the issue of temporary travel
documents and assistance for departure home to Singapore. Four
Singaporeans, who were injured in the attack, have been hospitalised.
Our Embassy officials have visited them in hospital. We have not
received any further reports of Singaporean casualties but we are
maintaining close contact with the relevant authorities. Our Embassy
is also keeping close touch with the Singaporean community in
Jakarta and helping trace the whereabouts of Singaporeans as
reported by their family members today.
Friends and relatives of Singaporeans in Jakarta can call the MFA
Consular Hotline at 6332 0000 for updates. "
