Security and Traffic
Arrangements For The New Year Countdown 06/07 |

Large crowds and heavy vehicular traffic are
expected around Esplanade ¨C Theatres on the Bay on New Year¡¯s Eve for
the Marina Bay Countdown 06/07 as well as along Orchard Road. |
Police, Auxiliary Police Officers and
event security officers will be deployed for crowd and traffic
control duties. CCTVs would also be used to monitor the crowd
situation. |
Security Arrangements |
Bags and personal items may be
subjected to checks by the Police. Members of public are advised
to cooperate with the Police when checked. They should also notify
the Police of any suspicious items or persons. |
Members of public are advised to look
after their belongings especially when they are in crowded places. |
Police would not hesitate to take
action against persons who use spray foam to commit crime or cause
nuisance to the general public. |
Traffic Arrangements |
For the safety of participants and to
facilitate traffic arrangements for the event, the following roads
will be closed to all motorists: |

Motorists are advised to avoid the
affected roads as well as Orchard Road which is likely to
experience high traffic volume. Motorists are requested to slow
down should they travel along the routes or pass by the affected
junctions. |
Officers will be stationed at all
affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists
along the routes while security officers have been appointed by
the event organizer to facilitate pedestrians crossing the
affected roads. |
Parking restriction along the peripheral roads
will be strictly enforced. Vehicles found parking and causing obstruction
will be summoned and towed away. |
Public bus services affected by the
road closures will be diverted from their original routes. Bus
inspectors from bus companies will be stationed at selected
locations to advice commuters on the diversion. Information signs
will also be placed at the affected bus stops. The bus diversion
plan is enclosed. |
Motorists travelling from Shenton Way
planning to use Nicoll Highway to get to the eastern part of
Singapore are advised to use the ECP entrance at Maxwell Road.
Motorists travelling from Nicoll Highway planning to get to the
western part of Singapore are advised to use Raffles Boulevard
onto Republic Boulevard to get into AYE. |
Traffic Enforcement along ECP |
The ECP serves as a key thoroughfare
and an alternative route for motorists to avoid congested areas.
Therefore, the stopping of vehicles along the ECP Benjamin Sheares
Bridge to watch the fireworks is therefore strictly prohibited. |
Traffic Police officers will be
deployed to take enforcement action against motorists stopping
illegally along ECP, including, the towing away of vehicles.
Motorists are advised to comply with any directions that may be
given by Traffic Police. |
Tune in to the radio/ Use public
transport |
Traffic Police will be providing
regular updates to keep motorists informed of the traffic
situation via EMAS advisory notices and Trafficwatch. Members of
the public travelling to the area are advised to make use of
public transport as congestions / diversions are expected. The
understanding of the public is much appreciated. |
