M1 offers free wireless
broadband service at Parco Bugis Junction |
|
Visitors to Parco Bugis Junction can
now enjoy free surfing using the wireless broadband access (WBA)
service with up to 1Mbps download speed provided by M1 at this
popular shopping mall. |
M1 had earlier in the month launched
Singapore¡¯s first true island-wide broadband service, M1
Broadband, using its newly upgraded 3G network that is the first
to offer High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). |
The free service at Parco Bugis
Junction, which is available till 31 December 2007, showcases the
deployment of broadband service using Mesh Wi-Fi in a campus like
environment or location. |
Unlike the normal Wi-Fi that is
deployed for hot spots and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network), the
more sophisticated Mesh Wi-Fi covers a wider area. It also offers
a cost-effective solution by using a series of Wi-Fi access points
that are interconnected with one another by radio links. |
"M1¡¯s WBA service at Parco Bugis
Junction is a clear demonstration of how certain building owners,
enterprises or campuses can effectively deploy broadband services
using mesh-Wi-Fi. We are pleased to be able to offer the public
the experience and benefits of free broadband access in a
prominent commercial area with this project," said Neil Montefiore,
Chief Executive Officer of M1. |
M1, Singapore's most exciting and
innovative mobile and IDD service provider, was launched in April
1997. |
Since then, it has made significant
inroads into the local mobile communications market, gaining
considerable brand presence and market share. M1 aims to be the
leader in personal voice, business and data communications,
focusing on value, quality and customer service. |
