The Centre for the Arts, NUS is
organising Lectures on Indian Music by Dr M. Hariharen on 30 & 31 Mar
2004. The lectures will be held at University Cultural
Centre Gallery Studio (Level 3) from 4pm - 5.15pm on both days. Admission
is free and all are welcome.

its musical influences on other musical traditions and genres, resulting in
new musical dialogues.

This
presentation will make illuminating comparisons between Indian music and other
forms of musical expressions and techniques in order to understand the systems
behind musical exploration. It will include the comparative modes and ragas
that are available in various musical systems.

the Speaker
|
Dr
M. Hariharen is the President of the Indian Society for Music Education and
Research in India. He is also a Special Officer with the State Music, Dance,
Drama Academy & State Fine Arts Academy and is the Principal of Bharathiar
Centre for Performing Arts & Fine Arts in Pondicherry, India. He has
published widely, participated in many international conferences and lectured
in universities in Australia, Japan and USA.
