The Centre for the Arts, NUS is
organising a public lecture by poet and theatre-specialist Professor
Ghulam-Sarwar Yousof on 5 Apr 2004. The talk will be held at The Centre for
the Arts Auditorium, NUS from 6pm to 7pm. Admission is free and all are
welcome.
|
Ghulam’s work
is unique, differing considerably in style, content and aesthetic principles
as well as purpose from the work of other Malaysian and Singaporean poets
writing in English.
|
This uniqueness
stems largely from the poet’s own cultural background which fuses influences
from South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East as well as the West.
|
The poems of
Ghulam-Sarwar Yousof are a manifestation of the intense encounter between the
poet and two worlds – the internal and the external, the physical and the
spiritual.
|
The lecture
will focus on the relationship between the writer and his work.
