A
trained primary school teacher, is adept at performing and
making puppets ¾
especially shadow puppets ¾
and is one of the co-founders of Toy Factory Theatre Ensemble.
Currently,
he is a freelance performer, puppeteer, puppet designer and
maker.
He
has written and directed numerous children’s puppetry shows
such as: Hugged the Trees
(Toy Factory Theatre Ensemble, 1994), The Big Bully (The Finger Players, 1999) and Dragon Dance (The Finger Players, International Puppetry Festival in
Seoul, Korea, 2000).
In
1995, he was invited by the Ministry of Information and the Arts
to direct a traditional hand puppetry performance for the ASEAN
Traditional Performing Arts Festival. He has also collaborated
with many theatre companies in introducing puppetry into their
performances, such as in Lao
Jiu by TheatreWorks, Mr.
Beng by Drama Box and The
Magic Paintbrush by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan.
He
has also organised numerous workshops for children and teachers,
in order to communicate the beauty of puppetry. To-date, Ne-zha is his biggest and
most ambitious production.
