A Tsunami Disaster Memorial Service will be held
on Sunday, 9 January 2005 at 5.00 pm at the Singapore Expo Hall 2. All are
welcome to attend. |
The Memorial Service will be an occasion for us to
come together as a nation to remember the victims of the tsunami disaster both
in Singapore and across the world, and to pray for the recovery of the injured
and the safe return of those who are still missing or unaccounted for. |
Singapore stands in solidarity with all the
countries that have been grievously affected by the disaster. |
The Prime Minister of Singapore will participate
in the Service and address the gathering. Religious leaders from the
Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO) representing nine religions will say
prayers. The Memorial Service will be broadcast "live" over television and
radio. |
Members of the public attending the Service are
advised to arrive before 4.00 pm. Other details which are being finalised will
be released over the next few days. |
As a mark of respect for the victims, the national
flag will be flown at half mast on Sunday, 9 January 2005. |
The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and
Sports (MCYS) is leading an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts
(MICA), Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore Police Force (SPF), Singapore
