     A new website, launched last Friday, aims to get Chinese professionals from around the world to meet at a common place, get joint projects started and participate in public forums all on the Internet. Named the Chinese Professionals Network, the website which is in Chinese, expects to get 2 million hits every month.

     It also plans to have a public offering this year. The website offers the following:

Dr Hu announces new budget. Highlights: S$500 increase in tax relief for looking after aged parents. Special CPF top-up of S$250 in Ordinary Account. Corporate tax down 0.5% to 25.5% starting next year. Property tax relief of 25% for commercial and industrial buldings. 10% corporate tax rebate withdrawn. Stamp duty on share transactions, now suspended, will be scrapped from 30 June.

In a joint statement issued last night, the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) and the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) said they have signed two agreements which will provide a 'comprehensive solution' to the issue of the suspended CLOB shares.

 A 37-year-old lawyer yesterday lost his licence to practise because he used other people's properties to raise more than S$2 million for himself. Billy Ng Chee Sing mortgaged two properties with the help of his friends. Before he was called to the bar in Mar 1995, Billy Ng was a deputy superintendent of police who held senior positions, including a posting as head of CID's Secret Societies Branch.

Washington: In a potentially-devastating discovery, government investigators said they have detected new computer hacking tools that allow Windows-based PCs to be corrupted and remotely launch attacks like those that brought down major American e-commerce sites two weeks ago.
