Loansharking duo busted at police road block

Two Chinese men, aged 38 and 42 years old, were arrested for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities when they were stopped at a road-block early this morning.
On 6 April 2009 at about 2.20am, Police stopped a car while conducting a road block in the vicinity of Yishun Housing Estate. The vigilant officers observed that the two men in the car appeared to be nervous and decided to conduct a further check. The officers' suspicions were confirmed when they found a stack of cash deposit receipts, ATM cards, marker pens, a few cans of paints and debtor records in the car. The two suspects were immediately placed under arrest for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
Both men will be charged in Court on 7 April 2009 at 9.00am for assisting an unlicensed moneylender by harassing the borrower and besetting the residence under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
first-time offender found guilty of assisting an unlicensed moneylender by harassing the borrower and besetting the residence shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $4,000 and not more than $40,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years or to both. He may also be subjected to caning with not more than 4 strokes if it is proved to the satisfaction of the court that, in the course of committing the offence, damage was caused to any property.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Superintendent Hsu Sin Yun commended his officers for their vigilance resulting in the successful arrest of the suspects.
