Inaugural Aster missile live firing onboard RSS Intrepid in France

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean Witnesses Inaugural Aster Missile Live Firing

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean witnessed the inaugural live firing of the Aster missile onboard the newly commissioned RSS INTREPID in Toulon, France, with Chief of Navy RADM Chew Men Leong. The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) stealth frigates are equipped with the Aster Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system, which has a range of up to 30km.
The successful live firing of the Aster missile marks a significant operational milestone. The frigates, besides forming the core of the 3rd Generation RSN's fighting group, also enhance and contribute to Singapore's overall air defence network. The RSS INTREPID, the second of six frigates, was commissioned into operational service on 5 Feb 08.
Minister Teo is in France on a working visit from 1 to 5 Apr 08.
