Commemorating 40 years of National Service

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean unveiled the NS40 logo at Ngee Ann City.

Commemorating 40 Years of National Service

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean launched NS40, a series of events to commemorate 40 Years of National Service, at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza this afternoon (12 Apr 2007).
NS40 commemorates the contributions of the more than 700,000 National Servicemen who have served or who are still actively serving in the SAF, the SPF and the SCDF.
The theme of NS40 is "Defending Our Home, Securing Our Future". It reflects the critical role that National Service has played in making the SAF an effective deterrent force and in helping the SPF and SCDF make Singapore one of the safest places in the world to live.
The theme also underlines the central role that National Service plays in Singapore's defence and security, which is the foundation for our continued prosperity and progress as an independent nation.

As part of the launch event, Mr Teo opened the NS40 Exhibtion at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, which showcases the evolution of NS and pays tribute to all National Servicemen who have served over the last 40 years. The exhibition runs from 12 - 15 April 2007.
The launch of NS40 marks the start of a series of events and activities from April to September 2007, which salutes our National Servicemen who have done their duty in service of our nation.
