Police arrested two men and three women,
aged 22 - 37 at the airport yesterday after they were found with nine
pieces of luggage containing more than 350 pieces of new garments. |
Based on police inquiries, a search was
conducted on the five Vietnamese nationals while they were checking-in
at Terminal 1 at about 4pm yesterday. |
An assortment of branded apparels, with
their price tags still on, was found in their possession. The five were
unable to give satisfactory accounts of where they had obtained the
clothing items and were then arrested. |
Preliminary investigations revealed that
about 30 of the items in their possession were found to be stolen from
shops in the Orchard area. The items are valued at over S$20,000/- and
police are expecting more victims to come forward. Efforts to verify the
owners of the remaining items are underway. |
The group will be charged in Court 26 on 12
July 2007 for Theft in Dwelling with common intention under Section 380,
read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. |
Superintendent Teo Chun Ching, Commander
Airport Police Division commended his officers for their vigilance in
detecting the group. |
He also added that criminals who plan
to come into Singapore to commit crimes should think twice as his
officers will continue to maintain a high state of vigilance to
safeguard the lives and properties of the public. |
